Piper is a Lab Mix that weighs about 35lbs. She is maybe a year old. Piper got her name because she was trapped in a drain pipe by her head and neck for 3 DAYS. The poor girl was so weak she could not stand when rescue arrived. The fire Dept and ACO's needed to work very slowly to get her head out of the pipe. She was very weak , Piper, had had no food or water for days since getting her head lodged in the pipe. She must have tried to catch a small animal that had scurried into in the pipe. Her rescuers needed to use bolt cutters, a hacksaw and a sawzsill to release her. A terrifying expierence for a young pup. Being trapped for days then all the noise of the rescue. It had been days before someone heard her cries for help and called the fire dept.First they had to find her then rescue her. The wound on her neck was caused by the pipe . She had been franticly trying to free herself for days. She was unable to sit or lay down due to the way her head and her neck were lodged in the pipe. She could not move in any direction. If she had not been cut from the pipe she would have died or worse been attacked as she was defenceless and could not move at all. not even an inch....... Her nightmare ended. Finally, cut out of the pipe but too weak to stand she was taken to the vet where she was treated for dehydration, warmed, fed. bathed.cared for until recovered. She was then transferred to the shelter. That is where we rescued her from. This young dog needs to be loved, cherished and protected for her life (as all dogs do) but especially this surviver. So full of love , happiness . Thanks to the fire dept and the ACO's she is alive and loving everyone and everything. She is waiting for her forever home. Is it your home?
Piper's next stop was the Stanislaus Co. shelter, where she awaited rescue. She has been a love since the minute she arrived. She is playful and happy. Piper seems to have no baggage as a result of her mishap. She is learning to walk on a leash, but is eager to learn. She likes playing with Cami and Allisa, two of her cohorts from Modesto. She would make a nice family dog.
