I’M ALREADY TRAINED FOR YOU. THE WORK IS ALL DONE.
Tennessee is an active terrier. His basic manners training at Davis Correctional Facility has given him the opportunity to learn self-control, sit, lay down, come when called, wait at the door, leave-it and housetraining. He also enjoys games and learned many tricks, including walking on his hind legs. Tennessee is active, friendly, and gets along well with other dogs. He needs a stockade fence.
The Pen Pal program at C.C.A. Davis is much more than a dog obedience school. They not only train dogs to understand people, they train people to understand dogs. This program is dedicated to giving dogs a chance to reach their full potential and to give the inmates skills, greater self-confidence, and a willingness to focus on others’ needs before their own.
Using “Clicker Training”, a system of and positive reinforcement, the dogs learn to repeat wanted behavior and avoid behaviors that are not rewarded. There’s no need to punish unwanted behavior; by making the proper behavior rewarding enough, the dog chooses the desired behavior. The program relies heavily on Pat Miller’s Book “The Power of Positive Dog Training”, the definitive reference for clicker training and “must have” for the new owner of one of the dogs trained through Pen Pals.
