Tilly came to Big Dog Rescue from the Salinas Shelter where she was brought in as a stray wandering the streets. Tilly was very frightened, huddled in the corner of the kennel, shivering and shaking, too scared to approach anyone.
Upon exam by the shelter vet, it was found that Tilly had a sidewall hernia, which needed immediate surgical repair. We took her to our vet and she underwent surgery that afternoon. When they opened her up they could not believe what they found. Tilly had suffered from severe blunt force trauma, as if she had been kicked repeatedly. Many of her organs had been forced to one side of her body and had adhered to the body wall cavity. To make matters worse Tilly was pregnant.
In order to save her life, we had to abort the unborn puppies, detach her organs from the body wall cavity so they would free float. Tilly's prognosis was guarded, the first 48 hours post surgery were very difficult for her.
As you can see Tilly has made a great recovery, she is a brave little dog, that is enjoying her new life and all the love and attention she is getting. She is no longer afraid and welcomes walks around the ranch, cuddles on the sofa and playing fetch.
This 10lb little terrier is just delightful, charming, and sweet. She does great with other dogs, rides well in the car and will make a fantastic companion.
