Trudi is a little miniature poodle, under 10 lbs. Here is her story.

At the end of November Trudi was hit by a car and broke her hip. She ran off and survived on the streets for 3 weeks. Then one rainy night, this, some would say unlucky little girl, was hit by a car a second time as she trying to cross the street using mostly her 2 front legs. She went flying and was thrown under a parked car, which is where Trudi’s luck changed. A good Samaritan picked her up and took her to a shelter in Delano. They called BDR and how could we say no to this young dog that had already suffered so much in her young life. We arranged to have her see an orthopedic surgeon in Sacramento who plated her pelvis and pinned her leg. She was fostered by Sue, a wonderful volunteer, who kept her crated for the duration of her bed rest. Since then, with the blessing of her orthopedist, she has been hanging out with Sue’s three 100 lb. dogs without a worry. Sue needed to return Trudi to us as she had her own hip surgery to deal with. Trudi now spends her days with our giant house dog David and tries to get every volunteer to play ball with her. We understand now why Trudi was able to survive on the street injured as she was. She just never quits; she lives her life to the fullest. Whether its people or balls or dogs, they’re all for her to enjoy. It’s all about having fun. She will never be alone, injured cold and starving again.
